Making Comparisons

My occupation is a lawyer/a teacher/a salesman, etc.

My occupation is that of a lawyer/a teacher/a salesman, etc.

The price of the yellow car is higher than the red car.

The price of the yellow car is higher than the price of the red car.

The price of the yellow car is higher than that of the red car.

The yellow car is more expensive than the red car.

The price of the yellow car is more expensive than that of the red car.

The weight of Peter is greater than that of Mary. (correct)
Peter is heavier than Mary. (correct)
The weight of Peter is greater than Mary. (wrong!)
The weight of Peter is heavier than that of Mary. (wrong!)

The height of Mount Everest is greater than that of Mount Fuji. (correct)
Mount Everest is higher than Mount Fuji. (correct)
The height of Mount Everest is greater than Mount Fuji. (wrong!)
The height of Mount Everest is higher than that of Mount Fuji. (wrong!)
